Storm takes priority

Phil Reimer is cruising the Mexican Riviera aboard Royal Caribbean’s Mariner of the Seas

Usually on my first day onboard, I run around like a madman attempting to do and see everything so that I can spend the night writing away to let you know what I think of the ship. Dumb, don’t you think? This time I am going to leave it until the last day, at least I was until the captain announced that a tropical storm is scheduled to arrive in our first port—Cabo San Lucas—the same time we are. Not good...

So the schedule has changed and we will spend another day at sea and add Cabo back into the schedule on Friday, as we head north. Hey, a little excitement to start my day. Now back to what I wanted to blog about today.

The daily program that arrives the previous night in my cabin has always fascinated me. I mean, who can do all those things and quite frankly, who wants to? Usually when you're sailing south the weather is bright and beautiful. But for some, and I am guilty from time to time, we want to be inside.

Taking out some of the sales, some of the daily features, and a few other regular items, I wound up with no less than 68 things to do in a single day—give or take a couple. I could take up new body cycling for $12, ha, impossible—next. Pathway to Yoga, that’s also $12—I don’t look good as a pretzel. I could learn the art of scrapping. I thought at first that had something to do with fighting—like a scrap. Turns out it’s a much gentler hobby.

Bingo, poker lessons, photography, vitality workshops that cover metabolism—yes, I have one. Facial rejuvenation—it took me decades to get it just like this. A flatter stomach—what in one week? I could go for the sports clinics, diving, snorkeling, rock climbing, or dodge ball for adults. Could you imagine if a group of teens played the adults? Dead that’s what we would be—dead. There's line dancing, waltz lessons—sure those are all possible—so are the cooking classes. After much thought, I have decided to go to the newlywed's reception—by myself—and announce that she has already left me, just to mess with their heads.

Seriously, there is a lot to do. My point is, if you have never cruised before, you will not get bored. Besides, what’s better than stretching out in the sun with a good book?

In tomorrow's blog post, I'll have to see if I survive the scrapping class.

All for now.
