Vancouver a Disney port again

POSTED ON January 26, 2012 3:00 AM

Great news for Vancouver! Disney has come out with a whole new series of cruises for parts of 2012 and 2013 and Vancouver is getting the Disney ship it lost to Seattle for 2013.

This is huge news for a West Coast port that has watched a lot of ships going to Alaska head south to depart from Seattle. Also new is that Disney will be back in Europe in 2013 and is now going to operate a second home-port out of Florida.

In that case, I assume that Disney's people saw all the competitors moving into their backyard at Port Canaveral and decided to give the opposition a taste of its own medicine. This will be the first time Disney has sailed out of Miami on a regular basis.

Meanwhile, back to Vancouver. Disney’s Wonder will operate a 7-night return cruise to three Alaska ports. The cruise has been working on developing specific adventures that are unique to Disney.

Here's a preview...

7-night Alaska
Ports:
Vancouver, Tracy Arm (scenic cruising through fjord), Skagway, Juneau, Ketchikan
Departure dates: May 27, June 3, 10, 17, 24, July 1, 8, 15, 22, 29, Aug. 5, 12, 19, 26, Sept. 2

The president of Disney often said the line could go back to Europe one day and that one day is June 1, 2013.

The traditional 7-night sailings are in the cards, as well as 4-day and 12-day itineraries. Disney Magic will be the ship and prices for the 7-day cruises start at $1,015...

4-night Mediterranean Getaway
Ports:
Barcelona, Nice/Villefranche (France), Palma de Mallorca (Spain)
Departure dates: July 9, Aug. 6

7-night Mediterranean Cruise
Ports:
Barcelona, Nice/Villefranche, Florence/La Spezia, Rome/Civitavecchia, Naples

12-night Mediterranean (includes Greece)
Ports:
Barcelona, Nice/Villefranche, Florence/La Spezia, Rome/Civitavecchia, Athens/Piraeus, Ephesus/Kusadasi (Turkey), Mykonos (Greece), Valetta (Malta)

12-night Mediterranean (includes Venice)

Departure dates: June 27, July 25

The Western Caribbean and the Bahamas should prove popular with South Floridians who no longer have to make that drive north to catch a ship. I also think they have probably put the ship in that port for the South America travellers, who have a huge number of daily flights into Miami from all of South America. The cruises are all on the Disney Magic.

5-night Caribbean
Ports:
Miami, Cozumel, Castaway Cay
Departure dates: Jan. 5, 19, Feb, 2, 16, March 2, 16, 30, April 13, 27

5-night Caribbean
Ports:
Miami, Grand Cayman, Cozumel
Departure dates: Jan. 14, 28, Feb. 11, 25, March 11, 25, April 8, 22

4-night Bahamas
Ports:
Miami, Key West, Nassau, Castaway Cay
Departure dates: Jan. 10, 24, Feb. 7, 21, March 7, 21, April 4, 18, May 2

Meanwhile, the two new Disney ships — Fantasy and Dream — will continue to sail 3-4-and-7-day trips out of Port Canaveral (Orlando).

All for now.

Excellent news for  Vancouver,  this being the secone  return of a major vessel  for 2013  The  Norweigen Sun being the other.

We are now basically where we were  before the withdrawls began in  2009  the  only major that hasn't  returned is the  2nd  Royal Carribean ship  the Seranade of the seas.

I heard that Seattle will be Homeport for 2014 and they will switch between Seattle and Vancouver every year. If Seattle does a good job keeping the ship Full!
