QM 2 circling Australia

Phil Reimer--I love the way the cruise lines follow each other around--they all do it.

The Volendam sails this week on a 34-day sold out cruise circumnavigating Australia.

Now, Cunard announces that they are going to circumnavigate Australia in 2012, but there is a twist to the circumnavigation.

Norovirus a problem

Phil Reimer--We were at a time last year when the outbreaks of norovirus on cruise ships had taken a holiday. Not this year. Keep in mind, Norovirus is the same virus you would find around your office or other enclosed areas. However, when you're on a holiday and it happens, it’s a royal pain in the you know where.

Beside the sickness, you're also not allowed to leave your cabin—which can be a bigger pain. When this happens on a ship, it's cleaned from stern to bow and officials from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) then inspect the ship. The ship is not to sail until it's cleared by the CDC.

Writers' favourite destinations

Some well-known and well cruised British cruise writers, such as Douglas Ward (Berlitz Cruise Books) and Jane Archer from The Daily Telegraph, to name a couple, offered up their favourite cruises. Now, you’re not going to see a 7-day London return on here, or a Caribbean, Mexican Riviera or Hawaii cruise. These are writers who have been to these destinations, have picked them as one of their favourites and want to go back.

Celebrity and Australia again?

Phil Reimer--News to finish the week.

Today is the float out of the Oceania Cruises' Marina, the first of a new class for the popular cruise line. The 1200 passenger ship is not sailing anywhere.  A float out means it has been sitting on a scaffold of blocks to this point and now it’s about to be sitting in the water.
